A Krampe Hook lift trailer supports the coastal defence

Schleswig-Holstein’s Government-owned Company for Coastal Protection, National Parks and Ocean Protection, abbreviated LKN-SH in German, is responsible for a lot of functions at the coasts of Schleswig-Holstein.
Beneath others the LKN-SH eliminates oil spills and is in charge for the accompanied precaution planning. This is an important topic especially in the national park and World Herritage – natural site the Wadden Sea and a tricky task considering the diverse types of coastline in Schleswig-Holstein.

In case of an oil spill for instance a quick reaction is crucial. Initially they place a container with implements and protective equipment at the operating site. While a first care starts, they can bring the other animal-container to look after the animals, daubed with oil. Working with containers reduces the quantity of vehicles and with that the number of additional workers and  the costs.

In this context the LKN-SH bought a Krampe Tandem hook lift trailer with air suspension and a 5.5 m hook loader as supplement to the existing transport fleet. The vehicle was financed by the littoral states under professional guidance of the German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies in Cuxhaven. This hook lift trailer can be used also for additional tasks regarding the maintenance and care of the dikes and foreshores as well as the harbours in the country.

Concerning the right selection it was important that the hook lift trailer is compatible with a range of vehicles and that the hight level is adjustable. Moreover the ability to transport containers with excess lengths was crucial.

“Due to the diverse operating ranges and the cooperation with fire brigade and the technical emergency services we have to be flexible and we have to be able to react to changing challenges”, states Mr. Pioch, responsible for the pollution control at the coasts of Schleswig-Holstein.  “We could convince ourselves of the ruggedness, the variety and the ride comfort at the Government-owned Company for Coastal Protection and Ocean Protection of Lower Saxony which works also with a Krampe hook lift trailer”, says Mr. Pioch.

The advantage of the version with air suspension is that the suspension bellows release air during tipping or roll-on/roll-off for the trailer to lower onto the rear axle for support. The chassis lowers automatically for a shallower roll-on / roll-off angle and thereby a more efficient stroke, eliminating the need for hydraulic rear axle support. Moreover the air suspension provides an excellent ride comfort at high speeds as well as in rough terrain.

The new flexibility and comfort makes work easier and more efficient for the LKN-SH between two seas and at almost 400 km land protection dikes.
