Quick, robust and safe - The new Krampe "TwinTop" cover system in action
The harvest season is just around the corner and in some places the roads will be covered with dust from the harvested crops. Having a suitable load-securing solution is crucial in order to avoid losses during transport and prevent trouble with the police and other road users due to transported goods falling off the trailer.
Krampe offers a range of different options for covering loads including roll-over and roll-up tarps and a Quick-Cover system. At Agritechnica 2023, the company introduced a new, fast, robust and utility model-protected (2023103014305200DE) alternative: the TwinTop cover system. The new cover system was developed in house and is produced to Krampe's high quality standards in Germany.
Robust design and reliable covering
The design of the TwinTop cover system, featuring two robust mesh fabric wings that are folded over each other, stands out for its ingenuity. The cover ensures 100% coverage of the cargo area.
Not only is it functional but it also offers an incredibly robust solution for secure covering. The centre of rotation runs in a curved path due to the sprocket which ensures optimal functionality. Even with vehicles that are highly loaded, enough force is generated to neatly position the cover over the frame. When folded down, there is enough space between the sidewalls and the cover system to open the tailgate.
Safe and efficient to use
When the cover is folded down, the upper edge sits 11 cm below the top frame and therefore outside the working area. This minimises the risk of hitting it with a shovel when loading. When closed, the TwinTop increases the overall height of the vehicle by just 5.5 cm (max. 8 cm with the sprockets) which means that it can also be used on vehicles with extensions and large tyres. The double-sided, hydraulic Krampe cover system opens and closes in 15 seconds and can conveniently be controlled from the driver's cab.
Flexibility and simple handling
The TwinTop can be used on a wide variety of different vehicle types, such as a BigBody tipper with 80 cm silage extensions and 710 / 50 R30.5 tyres for example.
The levers used to rotate the TwinTop are stored in brass and solid lubricant bushings, making them practically maintenance free. The cover system's hydraulic cylinders are protected against damage from impacts and collisions by stable cylinder mounts and are significantly more robust and cheaper than the more frequently used oil engines.
High utility value and easy assembly
When designing the TwinTop, we focussed on high utility value and easy assembly. The system is completely bolted together and comes in various lengths from 6.00 to 10.35 m. Compatible vehicles can be ordered ex works with the TwinTop already fitted.
In addition, Krampe vehicles will be able to be retrofitted with the cover from 2025. For now, there are no plans for the cover to be used with vehicles from other manufacturers.
By using proven standard cylinders and optimised production processes, the TwinTop cover system offers an excellent price-performance ratio.
The feedback from Agritechnica 2023 about the TwinTop was extremely positive. Expectations regarding demand were exceeded after the trade fair. Over 50 units have been sold to date and they have proven themselves in the field.
