Krampe improves its quality assurance process with a portable 3D coordinate measuring machine
"Quality on wheels" – this is Krampe's motto and it is clearly reflected in the company's many trailers which are often used by their owners for several decades. However, in connection with the EU type approval, that almost all Krampe vehicles are delivered with, continuous quality management is mandatory. This approval means that not only can Krampe customers register their vehicles in the EU without a problem, but they can also be sure that the vehicles meet the highest, EU-wide quality and safety standards.
So that the quality of each incoming component can be inspected even more precisely, Krampe recently invested in a new portable 3D coordinate measuring machine (WM 3000) from KEYENCE. This optimisation in the goods receiving process means that there will be fewer disruptions during production. At the same time, the use of technically perfect components will result in better quality Krampe trailers.
This new machine will also give Krampe Fahrzeugbau GmbH the opportunity to check the dimensional accuracy of even the most complex components with the help of a computer. What's more, the software allows certain parameters to be calculated automatically and the program compares the measured elements with the tolerances transferred from the drawings.
Once a component has been added to the measuring system, a repeat measurement for subsequent deliveries can be carried out quickly and precisely. This means that the same criteria are always checked on the component.
The new portable 3D coordinate measuring system offers a high degree of flexibility. The mobile camera head and wireless measuring probe can be used to take measurements either directly on the test bench or during production.
In addition, the enormous measuring range of the system means that it can be used to measure almost all components. The communication with the measuring system's tracking camera is done via the infra-red tip of the measuring probe. This means that precise measurements with a repeatability accuracy of 10 μm and within a measurement range of up to 10 m wide and 5 m high can be taken.
